Democracy

Iowa is a very unique place indeed. Sean and I had the privilege to take a part of history. Saturday was of course probably the hottest day of the year, I think the index (humidity and temperature together) hit around 105, but we still went to the republican party straw poll located here in Ames. Amidst tons of press, it was fun to be apart of the grass roots presidential campaign. It was neat to hear all the speeches and to see people take part of supporting someone who has similar opinions. It was fun to go and do a vote. The straw poll is just a fund raiser for the republican party, but is a means to help run the caucuses sometime this winter (everything takes money to do). Iowa has always been first for caucuses and its looking with states changing their minds on when to do their caucus that we could be voting on New Years Day! Good grief! I wish some states would just leave the whole issue of being first alone (Iowa law we are to have the caucus 8 days before anyone else). Anyway, its been an honor to take apart of the democratic process and see others enjoy it as well. Hopefully we can help elect the future republican candidate.
